What is Surface Tension and capillary action?
Surface Tension & Capillary Action:
- Surface Tension (T): Property of liquid surface at rest to behave like a stretched elastic membrane due to cohesive forces (T = F/L, N/m).
- Capillary Action: Spontaneous rise or fall of liquid in a narrow tube (capillary) due to balance of cohesive and adhesive forces.
- Examples: Spherical raindrops, oil rising in lamp wick, absorption of ink by blotting paper.
